Mainframe Workload Automation

CSAR

CSAR, the Computer Scheduling and Reporting system, is Mainframe Job scheduling software that organizes and automates production Job workloads on your IBM mainframe.

CSAR gives your computer operations’ staff a powerful set of tools to optimize your mainframe’s Job workload by improving scheduling, workload monitoring, resource utilization, and other factors that affect production.

Features of CSAR

Real-Time Monitoring

CSAR performs real-time monitoring of running processes to identify underperforming processes and correct inefficiencies. CSAR monitors job logs, performs status inquiries, and analyzes job run statistics to make any necessary schedule changes to improve performance.

Flexible JCL Processing

CSAR is designed to enable flexible JCL processing. JCL can be stored in one or more partitioned datasets, Librarian, or Panvalet libraries for z OS. Users can create “model JCL” which may be modified at submission time, based on run date and parameter values that can be specified by the user. REXX (Restructured Extended Executor) style functions can be used for string manipulation and date/time processing during JCL generation at job submission time.

Robust Scheduler Functionality

CSAR’s scheduling features include Batch updates, (including Mass change and delete); Multiple calendar definitions; Comprehensive frequency codes; Multiple CPU and work-center scheduling; Maximum condition code checking; and Forecasts, flow charts and one-year schedules by job. Scheduling metrics and reporting include Statistics on late-running jobs, Abends (abnormal ends), and reruns; Monitor log; Job status inquiries; Job submission and post events analysis; and Job accounting reports.
