New iSecurity Anti-Virus & Anti-Ransomware Releases Support Asynchronous Processing & Multithreading

The latest iSecurity Anti-Virus & iSecurity Anti-Ransomware (AV/AR) v7.74 releases include two new features that improve performance, reduce system overhead and reduce latency for anti-virus and anti-ransomware processing:

  • Asynchronous processing
  • Multithreaded processing support on the File Server

Here’s how these new features provide significant improvement for anti-virus and anti-ransomware processing.

Asynchronous processing for virus & ransomware protection

Asynchronous processing allows the bulk of the solution’s virus/ransomware detection work to occur outside of IBM i exit program processing. In previous releases, iSecurity Anti-Virus & Anti-Ransomware (AV/AR) had to identify attacks entirely within IBM i exit program processing. Since the OS needed to wait until each exit point program completed its review, users also needed to wait until each individual action was inspected.

With the new iSecurity Anti-Virus and Anti-Ransomware v7.74 releases, both products can split their processing into two parts. The bulk of their virus/ransomware detection work can now occur asynchronously, outside of IBM i exit program processing. Processes and users no longer need to wait for these operations to finish.

Asynchronous processing can improve AV/AR performance, especially in high-volume environments. It also reduces latency by allowing other processing to continue while AV/AR detection processing continues to work.

Multithreaded processing support on the File Server

Multithreaded processing support allows AV/AR to share virus & ransomware detection activities inside a single File Server job. In earlier versions, non-threaded QZLSFILE jobs were used for virus or ransomware detection for individual users. When running AV/AR v7.74 in multithreaded environments, a single QZLSFILET job can now share virus & ransomware detection activities for multiple users.

Multithreaded support reduces overhead, improves AV/AR performance and reduces latency by reducing the number of jobs that need to be run.

Activating asynchronous processing & multithreaded processing support

New product configuration options in both solutions allow you to specify whether AV/AR should use asynchronous processing or activate its multithreading support.

Asynchronous processing & multithread processing support are available in iSecurity Anti-Virus v7.74 & above and in iSecurity Anti-Ransomware v7.74 & above.
