Data Compression & Encryption
What is absCompress
iSeries Data Compression
absCompress provides IBM i data compression and encryption of IBM i objects and files at high-speed to save space and reduce file transfer time and encrypt sensitive information on the IBM I for security and auditing purposes. absCompress has consistently compressed objects over 80%. Libraries, save files, native objects, IFS objects, IFS directories, entire output queues, and selected spool files can be compressed quickly to a fraction of their original size.
Features of absCompress
absCompress provides IBM i data compression and encryption for IBM i objects and files at high-speed to save space and reduce file transfer time. absCompress has consistently compressed objects over 80%. Libraries, save files, native objects, IFS objects, IFS directories, entire output queues, and selected spool files can be compressed quickly to a fraction of their original size. Compressed objects can be saved to a folder on the IFS or may also be saved directly to tape.

Compress Output Queues and Spool Files
absCompress can compress entire output queues or selected spool files from output queues for Power Systems including AS400, iSeries, and System i. Spool files to compress can be chosen by JOB, user, time and date, message queue and more. Entire output queues or only specific spool files can be “reprinted” from the compressed file for Power Systems including AS400, iSeries, and System i.

IBM i Encryption
absCompress comes shipped with industry standard and government approved AES encryption. With IBM i encryption, your iSeries data is secured for file transfer, physical transport, and storage. absCompress offer 3 levels of IBM i encryption up to 256 bit. Any IBM i data can be encrypted (LIB, SAVF, PF, etc.) through absCompress. All the functionality is supplied to compress and encrypt directly to tape.
Users enter a string known as a passphrase to encrypt data. Optionally the absCompress Keyvault feature can be used to assign a user-friendly key name to a passphrase. This feature provides administrators the ability to distribute the key name to users without divulging the passphrase to unauthorized users. Because all absCompress functions, including encryption, can be invoked via command it allows data to be encrypted without using the passphrase in the command string. The key name can only encrypt data; the original passphrase used to create the key name is needed to decrypt/decompress the data.
An optional Windows component called absCrypt is also available. absCrypt extends your capabilities of encrypting your IBM i data by enabling it to be decrypted your PC or windows server. You can use absCrypt to decode the IBM i file and view it or store it on your PC or Windows Server. absCrypt also allows you to encrypt Windows files and securely transfer them to your IBM i. Simply compress any file using a windows compression tool (i.e., WINZIP) and use absCrypt to encrypt the .zip file you create. When you successfully transfer the file to your IBM i, you may then use absCompress to decrypt/decompress the file.
-
gzip Standard Compatible
With this IBM i data compression module, files and objects can be compressed in an industry standard format to enable transfers to other platforms, like Windows or UNIX, and inflated with any Gzip.
-
History Console
The absCompress history console can track the details of all IBM i data compression or decompression procedures it performs. Start time, duration, original size, compressed size, and all aspects of a command are recorded. Files and objects can be restored directly from the history console. Search criteria can be used to find specific logged procedures. Search criteria can be a combination of User, Command used, Start Date/Time, End Date/Time and more.

Configurable Performance
absCompress can be configured to compress for size or speed. You can select maximum IBM i data compression when the size of the compressed file is most important or less compression when time is of the essence.
