What is TRMS?

The Total Report Management System (TRMS) suite streamlines IBM Z application report management, including automated viewing, archiving, distribution, and printing. It consists of two solutions that enable report access using a user’s preferred access method and device, including a Web UI, native IBM Z interfaces, and APIs:

  • TRMS: TRMS provides IBM Z application report management functionality from any device or application, including report archiving, access, indexing, extraction, search, transformation, and security.
  • TRMS View: TRMS View offers report vaulting and off-mainframe hosting for IBM Z archived reports.

What’s New in TRMS 7.04?

Alias Report ID Field for improved searching and JCL report generation

TRMS 7.04 adds a new Alias Report ID field (ALIASID) to several TRMS panels. Alias Report ID is now supported and included in the following TRMS panels:

Alias Report ID replaces the Alternate Report Name field used in previous versions. The Browse panel now supports Alias Report ID searches.

Using Alias Report ID in JCL

7.04 provides a new setting to allow JCL statements to set the REPORT ID name to an Alias Report ID name. Users can designate an Alias Report ID to use by including an “OUTPUT NAME=” statement in your JCL stating the Alias Report ID you want to use, as shown here:

    //OUTNAME  OUTPUT NAME=’RPT_REPORTL’
    //SYSUT2   DD  SYSOUT=(U),DEST=TRMSDEST,OUTPUT=(*,OUTNAME)

If no “OUTPUT NAME=” statement is included, the JCL writer name is used as the REPORT ID If the Alias Report ID is not found, then the REPORT ID is set to “TRMUSUPN”.

Redesigned TRMS Panels

TRMS panels are redesigned using mix case characters, making them easier to read.

JCL/INSTLIB Report Enhancements

Support for the new Alias Report ID (ALIASID) field and other enhancements were added to the following JCL/INSTLIB members.  Pattern searches can also be used with these reports to search for and return a targeted collection of IBM Z reports within the TRMS database.

  • Report Definition Inventory Report (RPTJDREP): Uses ALIASID support to return designated reports.
  • Online Report Distribution Inventory (RPTJDINV): Uses ALIASID support to return designated reports.
  • RPTJDARH – Archive Inventory Report: Uses ALIASID support to return designated reports.
  • RPTJGPRT / Global Print Report – New Search Find Limit and Search Limit added to report area.

Please refer to the TRMS 7.04 Batch Manual for complete details
 of these JCL changes.

The following capabilities are no longer available in TRMS 7.04 and have been replaced by the enhancements listed here.

  • The TRMS legacy installation procedure: Replaced by the TRMSINS ISPF Installer, which allows the user to modify the configuration and resubmit to continue without exiting the installation process.
  • Recipient Profile Security, Recipient Definitions, and selected TRMS security modules: Replaced with SAF Security. See the SAF security enhancements & Recipient Profile security replacement section for more information. These security modules were retired with TRMS 7.04.

    • SUZTSECU (Data Server Security Module)
    • TRMSET00 (SAF Environment Table: Table ID 00)
  • Encrypt Report: TRMS no longer accepts encryption of reports. Previously encrypted reports will stay encrypted.
  • Removed Help options from Internals I (Info) panel: Info is Notes and Broadcast Message-based now.  Help has been removed from this area but remains available by pressing F1/Help throughout all panels.

SAF security enhancements & Recipient Profile security replacement

System Authorization Facility (SAF) security now controls all Recipient Profile security that was previously enabled with the AUTHORITY SETTINGS values on the Recipient panel. TRMS 7.02/7.03 Recipient Definitions are not supported in 7.04.

SAF security is enabled by the TRMSETxx (SAF Environment Table) functions first introduced in release 7.02.  Six SAF Environment Table IDs are defined in 7.04 (TRMSET01, TRMSET02, TRMSET03, TRMSET04, TRMSET19, and TRMS**).  TRMSET00 is no longer supported.  For TRMS 7.04 upgradesinstalling a new SAF Environment Table, or TRMSET00 replacementTRMSET19 will be provided for first time logins.

The following security modules are no longer supported in TRMS 7.04:

  • TRMSECUK (TRMS Security Module)
  • SUZTSECU (Data Server Security Module)
  • TRMSET00 (SAF Environment Table: Table ID 00)

Please Refer to the
TRMS SAF Manual or contact SEA Technical Support for more information on configuring SAF security.

Extensive Pattern Searches in TRMS 3270

TRMS 3270 extensive pattern searches are now available inside most TRMS functions, producing more targeted search results.

7.04 provides a new pattern character that enables wildcard searches, when searching for specific Report IDs (Report=) and Alias Report IDs (ALIASID=).  Pattern searches can be used in any TRMS panels that provide search functionality.

Pattern searching can also be used inside batch JCL reports that search for Report ID/Alias Report ID names including Report Definition Inventory Report (RPTJDREP), the Online Report Distribution Inventory (RPTJDINV), and the Archive Inventory Report (RPTJDARH).

TRMS 7.04 WUI Update

The TRMS Web User Interface (WUI) has a new look and color scheme for 7.04.  The layout has been changed to include new features and benefits, but its functionality remains the same and should be familiar to current users. The following changes are implemented in the new TRMS 7.04 WUI.

  • Alias Report ID (ALIASID) name support
